Iowa Highway 212 is a state highway in Iowa County, Iowa. It runs from Iowa Highway 21 south of Belle Plaine to U.S. Highway 6 in Marengo. Iowa 212 was once a much longer highway, nearly , covering parts of the Lincoln Highway. Route description Iowa Highway 212 begins at an intersection with Iowa Highway 21 (Iowa 21) south of Belle Plaine. The intersection features a dominant curve from southbound Iowa 21 to eastbound Iowa 212. A short connector road allows westbound Iowa 212 traffic to reach southbound Iowa 21. Northbound Iowa 21 traffic must stop at the curve in order to continue north on Iowa 21. Heading east, Iowa 212 runs roughly parallel to the Iowa River for its entire length. It crosses Bear Creek before entering Marengo along South Street. At Western Avenue, Iowa 212 turns south towards U.S. Highway 6. Iowa County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. As of the 2020 census, the population was 16,662. The county seat is Marengo. Iowa County is one of seven counties in the United States to share the same name as the state they are located in. The other six counties are Arkansas County, Hawaii County, Idaho County, New York County, Oklahoma County, and Utah County. History Iowa County was formed on February 17, 1843. It was named for the Iowa River, which flows through the county. The first courthouse was a log cabin built in 1847. This was rented by the county until 1850 when a second courthouse was completed. Iowa Interstate Railroad
The Iowa Interstate Railroad is a Class II regional railroad operating in the central United States. The railroad is owned by Railroad Development Corporation of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. History The railroad was formed on November 2, 1984, using former Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific Railroad tracks between Chicago, Illinois and Omaha, Nebraska, four years after the Rock Island folded. It was in partnership with real estate firm Heartland Rail Corporation that the IAIS was able to operate. Heartland purchased the right-of-way and infrastructure for $31 million (of which, $15 million was a loan from the Iowa Railway Finance Authority), and then leased it to IAIS for operations. River To River Road (Iowa)
U.S. Highway 6 (US 6) is an east–west U.S. Highway which runs across the U.S. state of Iowa. The route is signed in places as the Grand Army of the Republic Highway. Like all state highways in Iowa, it is maintained by the Iowa Department of Transportation. The route begins at the Missouri River crossing at Council Bluffs. From there, it travels east through Oakland and Atlantic. North of Atlantic, the highway overlaps Interstate 80 (I-80) until De Soto. Between De Soto and Adel, the highway overlaps US 169 before splitting off to the east towards Des Moines. Through the Des Moines area, the highway runs about one mile (1.6 km) north or south of the I-35 / I-80 corridor.
